Areas for Improvement and Known Issues
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of XeroShoes.eu, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations.
- Missing or Incorrect Text Alternatives & Multimedia Support
Product images often lack meaningful alt text. Multimedia content is missing captions and transcripts, limiting access for screen reader users and people with hearing impairments. - Keyboard Inaccessibility
Some interactive elements (e.g., divs or spans) are not keyboard-operable, trap focus, or fail to shift focus as expected—creating a poor experience for users who rely on keyboard navigation. This is especially true for customer reviews on our product pages. - Interactive Elements Lack Clarity, Labels, or Accessibility
Some elements are hidden but accessible via keyboard, while others (like tooltips or grouped controls) are inaccessible without a mouse. Buttons and links lack descriptive labels or are assigned incorrect roles, creating ambiguity for all users. - Visual Layout Breaks at High Zoom Levels
Content overlaps, disappears, or becomes unusable at 200–400% zoom, affecting readability and layout consistency for users with low vision. - Videos and Animations Ignore Motion Preferences
Motion effects do not respect the prefers-reduced-motion setting, and there is no way to pause or stop animations that last more than 5 seconds, which can negatively impact users with vestibular disorders.
Accessibility Improvements
Here are some of the accessibility improvements we’ve made since 2024.
- Focus Visibility & Order Problems Resolved
Added missing focus indicators and improved the tab order throughout the site, making keyboard navigation more predictable and visible. Skip links are now properly implemented.
- Keyboard Inaccessibility Fixed
Key elements like navigation menus, carousels, videos, and form controls are now operable via keyboard. Previously inaccessible or incorrectly implemented controls (like checkboxes) are now usable.
- Color Contrast Issues Fixed
Multiple areas of insufficient color contrast have been resolved, improving readability for users with low vision or color blindness. Link-only identification by color has been corrected as well.
- Text Alternatives Improved
Missing, decorative, or incorrect alt text—especially for linked images—has been fixed. Ambiguous or empty links and buttons have also been corrected to provide clearer descriptions.
- Screen Reader Announcements Corrected
Status/confirmation messages are now properly announced, and content previously not exposed to screen readers is now accessible. Ambiguous dialog names and missing autocomplete attributes have also been addressed.
- ARIA & Semantic Roles Corrected
We’ve resolved issues with missing or incorrect roles, grouped related controls, and fixed landmark uniqueness. This improves screen reader interpretation and overall semantic structure.
- Forms and Labels Improved
Form fields now include visible labels instead of relying solely on placeholders. Required fields are properly marked, and autocomplete attributes are correctly implemented.
- Multimedia Accessibility Enhanced
Homepage videos now include captions and are operable via keyboard, supporting users with hearing impairments or those who rely on assistive tech.
- Ambiguous or Unclear Link/Button Text Fixed
Ambiguous anchor text and links that only showed names on hover have been updated to use clear, descriptive text visible to all users.
- Page Title & Structure Adjustments
Descriptive page titles have been implemented, and incorrect heading structures have been fixed to provide better document hierarchy.
